Thank you to our wonderful member Diana for sharing this in our New Life Promise Family Facebook group a while back.

I saved it as soon as I saw it, because I absolutely LOVE this. I really do strive to accomplish something in each of these categories every single day.

Sometimes we think getting healthy just means eating the right foods and exercising, and we forget about the mental component or the spiritual component.

I like these 3 guidelines because it helps you touch on all the vital aspects of health every single day.

Here’s how I get each of these in…

A Physical Win

At the beginning of each week, I take a look at my calendar and schedule my workouts. I then take a look at my schedule each day and make sure the scheduled time still works on that particular day (since things can change quickly when you have 2 kids).

This scheduling piece is pretty important as I can’t just let my workouts happen by chance. When I do that, they just don’t happen. Life is so busy and workouts can quickly get derailed by so many other things.

For my workouts, right now I am enjoying using an app for strength training and then ending with some walking on the treadmill. On the days I don’t strength train, I will do a pretty lengthy stretching workout and take one of the dogs on a long walk.

If you don’t know where to start with your workouts, our BodyFIT Foundations program is a great strength training program for any beginner exerciser, or anyone who may be getting started again after not working out for a while.

Is BodyFIT Foundations perfect for you? -> See HERE

A Mental Win

Just like we need to exercise our muscles, we also need to exercise our brains every day. This becomes even more important as we get older.

I find that in the age of technology, people’s attention spans are getting shorter and shorter and one of the best ways to prevent that from happening is to spend some time reading every day.

Now, I’m a bookworm, so no one needs to convince me to pick up a book each day, but if you’re not, giving yourself little mini reading goals can help.

Of course, I recommend reading your Bible every day and if you can do that not on your phone, that would be great (although any way you read the Bible is a win). You can then spend some time journaling about what you read… again, preferably not on a computer or phone but using good ol’ pen and paper.

If you want to add to that, give yourself the goal of reading 5 pages of a book you know you will enjoy each day. You will be surprised by how many books you will finish each year by just reading a few pages a day.

Just this simple practice will help you use your brain well each day.

A Spiritual Win

I know you probably already know how powerful prayer is, but are you incorporating it into your day as much as you should?

The answer for you may be yes, but I know for me, until I started making a real effort to incorporate specific prayer times into my day, my prayer list would get long and my prayer time was short.

Now, I have specific times in my day when I pray, and I even have an alarm set on my phone for the afternoon prayer time.

In the morning, after I have completed my morning work time and my Bible reading, I spend time in prayer asking the Lord to guide my day. Sometimes I will listen to a worship song during this time (right now, my favorite song is "Here As In Heaven" by Elevation Worship) and spend some time in worship.

Later in the day, at 3pm, I have an alarm set on my phone that reminds me to stop everything and pray. This actually started when my best friend put together a small prayer group that had nine girls, all in different states and different countries, all praying at the same time. I absolutely loved it so much that I decided to continue praying at that time every day even when our group ended.

How about you? What is the best way for you to get a win in each category each day?

Spend some time today thinking about each category and what small changes you may need to make to get these 3 valuable wins in each day.

Life has a way of being crazy sometimes doesn't it? Even with my detailed planning and super organized self, sometimes life throws me a curve ball I never saw coming.

You may be able to relate. There is quite a bit of uncertainty in our world today, but you know what?

That's okay!

Let’s dive into how we can navigate these feelings and find a sense of peace and purpose, even when life feels like it’s a little crazy and out of control.

Remember, you’re not alone.

Trust me when I tell you, it’s not just you. Many times we think we’re the only ones that can’t keep it together but more often than not, we are actually the majority and not the minority.

The first step in regaining your peace is remembering that you are not alone. This is not an isolated “you’” problem. There isn’t anything wrong with you and it's completely normal to go through times of overwhelm from time to time.

Who is really in control?

The other very important truth we must remember is that ultimate control isn't ours; it's God's. This doesn’t mean we sit back and do nothing, but rather, we trust that He’s got this. Acknowledging that God is in control helps ease our anxiety. It's a comforting thought, isn't it? We don’t need to have it all figured out because He does.

Establishing a Routine

Creating a routine is one of the best ways to bring some stability back into our lives. Even simple things like waking up at the same time every day or planning your meals can create a sense of normalcy. This isn’t about strict schedules or perfection; it's about giving yourself a framework to operate within, which can be incredibly grounding.

Focusing on What You Can Control

While we can't control everything, there are things we can manage, like our eating habits. It's easy to let stress take over and find comfort in unhealthy foods. But we can choose to nourish our bodies in a way that honors God and helps us feel our best. Let’s control what we can and trust God with the rest.

Community and Connection

In times like these, community becomes even more critical. Sharing your struggles and victories with others can be incredibly uplifting. Our New Life Promise community is a safe space where you can be vulnerable and find support without judgment. We’re all in this together, and sometimes, just knowing that can be a huge comfort.

Leaning on Scripture

Scripture is a powerful tool for finding comfort and guidance. One verse that resonates with me is John 13:7, where Jesus tells Peter, "You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will." It’s a reminder that we may not see the whole picture, but we can trust that God’s plan is the best plan.

Producing Fruit in Uncertain Times

Even when life feels chaotic, we are called to continue producing fruit. This means finding ways to grow and serve, even in small ways. Whether it's reaching out to someone who needs encouragement or starting a new project, there are countless ways to contribute positively to the world around us.

A Kingdom Perspective

Finally, let’s keep a kingdom perspective. In light of eternity, the struggles we face now are temporary. What truly matters is how we live out our faith, love others, and serve God. Every decision we make should reflect this eternal focus.

Closing Thoughts

If you're feeling overwhelmed and a bit out of control, remember that you're not alone. We're all in this together, and we can find strength in our faith, routines, and community. Let’s pray for each other, encourage each other, and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. He is our anchor in every storm.

Feel free to share this message with anyone who might need some encouragement today. And if you have prayer requests or need support, reach out. We are Prayer Warriors here, lifting each other up!

If you’re looking for a loving community to help you finally achieve your health and weight goals and pray for you throughout the journey, please come and join us in the New Life Promise Family.

If you struggle with cooking, I can totally relate.

I was almost 30 years old when I finally learned how to boil water… lol.

That may be hard to believe about someone who now has spent years developing and mastering delicious healthy recipes and who loves to spend time cooking.

How did I go from cooking amateur to “Wow, Isabel, these recipes are so delicious!”?

Here are a few tips (and a bonus resource) that will not just help you if you’re a struggling cook, but will help you if you’re doing your best to make your meal prep simple and easy while still ensuring delicious and tasty meals.

Tip #1: Environment is everything.

When I cook, I make sure it's going to be a fun time. I either have worship music playing or I will listen to a podcast or sermon.

This may sound like such a small detail, but it can be a game changer for anyone who does not look forward to cooking and the extra time it may take. You may even find that you begin to look forward to this time… I definitely do!

Tip #2: Get a chopper.

One of the most tedious tasks when it comes to cooking is cutting and chopping. Many recipes require diced vegetables which certainly takes a good bit of time.

“The chopper” to the rescue. For less than $25, you can get a great vegetable chopper that will give you perfectly cut and chopped vegetables in seconds.

Here is the exact one I have: 10-in-1 Vegetable Chopper

I would also highly recommend cutting and chopping extra if you already have it out. Ex: If you’re already dicing an onion, chop a bit extra for a recipe later in the week. Same for slicing cucumbers or other vegetables for your salad. If I already have a kitchen tool out and am using it, I always try and maximize that time as much as possible.

On that note…

Tip #3: Always cook extra.

If you’re already in the kitchen, already dirtying up some pots and pans, and already making a certain recipe, you could easily double or triple any recipe to save some for another day.

I always have frozen meals in my freezer for those weeks that get crazy or when I may not be home so my husband and kids have easy, healthy options.

Almost all cooked proteins freeze extremely well like grilled chicken, meatballs, meatloaf, taco meat, chilis… the list is endless.

I also cook extra just to have in the fridge for simple lunch options. My lunch is always leftovers which makes having a healthy lunch super easy every day.

Bonus Resource: YouTube University

Several years ago for my birthday, my husband bought me private cooking lessons with a chef. It was probably the best birthday gift I have ever received in my life! In just a few minutes, she taught me how to properly use knives (and which knife is best for what) and how to make a handful of delicious healthy meals.

But, now, we can all get private cooking lessons via YouTube!

I am definitely a “I can fix it or figure it out with YouTube” kind of gal and many of the recipes inside the New Life Promise program have come from me learning great strategies for healthy cooking via YouTube.

Even if you did not grow up cooking (like me) or it doesn’t come naturally to you, there are so many simple ways to make the process so much easier and it may even become something you look forward to.

Is your life crazy?

Oh, how so many of us can relate.

One of our wonderful members, Brenda, posted this in the community:

I am finding it very difficult to stay on the plan. Something always happens like a road trip, weekend at the cabin, my parents like to eat out for every meal. I work 10 hour days and am too exhausted to make a meal. I prep my lunch and breakfast every week. I can’t even find time to grocery shop when I am away for the weekend. Any advice? Should I wait for a better time?

I’m so glad Brenda came into the community for some help and advice because she got so many wonderful suggestions that I wanted to share with you today (along with my own strategies).

Pray. I know you know this one well, but this list would not have been complete without the reminder that whenever we are in any struggle in our life, our first defense is to go to the Lord in prayer. If He put it on your heart to take better care of the beautiful temple He blessed you with, He will certainly make a way.

Start with breakfast. If you can only do minimal planning and preparation, start with breakfast. It is absolutely amazing what happens when you start your day off with a good dose of healthy protein, carbs, and fat, all from clean ingredients.

Pick something super easy that can be made ahead of time and you can just “grab and go.” My husband eats 2 hard-boiled eggs (I hard boil a dozen at a time for everyone to grab) and a piece of my healthy banana bread every single morning and he loves it. It’s easy for him and he looks forward to it every day.

Know what to order when eating out. If you haven’t watched my video about eating out, you can watch it HERE. I start talking about eating out around the 4:35 mark (although the whole 10-minute video is full of great info).

When looking at any menu, I always look for a healthy protein first. That could be some chicken, fish, eggs, or lean beef. Next, look to see what healthy carb options are available. That may be rice, a white potato or sweet potato, or possibly just a big plate full of vegetables.

The most important thing is not to be afraid to ask questions. Specifically, you want to know whether the food items may be breaded, fried, or drowning in sauce. Most restaurants now are accustomed to making changes and are extremely accommodating.

Keep snacks simple. This one is actually so easy… easier than most people think. At any given time, if you see me out, I can guarantee you there is a bag of raw nuts in my purse. If I am ever caught somewhere much later than I had planned, I know I have a small snack with me to tide me over until I can get to my next meal. Ideally, I also have an apple or a banana with me to go along with it or I can find one while I’m out.

The combination of crunch and sweet is so satisfying and the good combo of protein, carbs, healthy fat and fiber keeps me satisfied and keeps my blood sugar stable. Having an easy snack like this handy will help prevent those moments where you just grab a bag of chips or a cookie at the convenience store or vending machine.

Drink your water. People often underestimate the power of water. They know it's good for them, but can it really help them lose weight? The answer is a resounding yes! If you’re not already in the habit of making water your drink of choice, today is a great day to start.

Just start by replacing one drink that you know is not a good choice for you, and replace it with water. I know, nothing exciting about that, but I promise you the results will be exciting.

Next, you may want to get yourself an inexpensive water bottle to help you track the amount of water you’re drinking each day. Finding one you really like will increase the chances you will carry it around with you and naturally start to drink more water throughout the day.

I know it would be ideal if life was perfectly set up for us to follow a healthy meal plan with no interruptions, but that’s not realistic for absolutely anyone.

Since we know there is no such thing as a “perfect time,” it's better to start with some small steps in the right direction than to give up on the goal entirely.

If you're ready to live a better, healthier life, look no further than the New Life Promise plan!

Have you ever been asked, "Who's on your team?" I'm sure you have. Maybe it was in sports or at work, but chances are, you've been part of a "team."

But today I'm talking about a different team in your life.

Whether you know it or not, you have a team around you right now that is either helping you get closer to your goals or pushing you away from your goals. Specifically, your health and weight loss goals. (And if you don't have a team, I'm going to show you exactly how to find a great one today.)

I just recently heard Pastor Rick Warren say,

"Success is never a one man show. It takes a team to fulfill a dream."

Well, ain't that the truth?!

Trying to do something big in life... like make significant changes in your health... is so much easier when you have people around you who are helping you and supporting you along the way.

Pastor Rick went on to say, "If you have a dream you can fulfill by yourself, then it's not from God. God's dream for your life is far bigger. It's so big, you can't fulfill it by yourself."

Wow! Although I can't say for sure whether your big dream is from God or not, I can tell you with 100% certainty that anything big I've accomplished in my life has been with the help and support of other wonderful people... and that includes losing 30 pounds and keeping it off for good.

So, who exactly do you need on your team?

Pastor Rick suggests we need 4 kinds of people on our personal teams:

Models – These are people in your life who inspire by example. They are the people who are where you want to be, and you can "model" the steps they've taken to get there.

Mentors – These are people who can coach you to achieve and show you how to reach your goal. We know that every top athlete has a coach and every top businessperson usually has a mentor. You can do the same for any goal you have in your life, including your health.

Partners – These are people who are in the trenches with you. They share your dream and are willing to do the work alongside you. They may have the same or similar goal as you, and you are in it together.

Friends – These are the people who lift you up and encourage you. Your best friends should bring out the best in you. If you have friends who bring out the worst in you, it may be time to reevaluate whether they belong on your team (harsh, but true).

"As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend." – Proverbs 27:17

So, how exactly do you start putting together your dream team? And do you need a lot of money and time to do it?

Definitely not!

Here is exactly where you can find these 4 types of people in your life.

Models – In the world of Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, there is no shortage of models to choose from. The trick here is following the right models. When my husband and I decided we wanted to get out of debt, we chose Dave Ramsey as our model. He was where we wanted to be... debt free, running a business, and still very present with his family. We began to study what he did to get to that point in his life and "modeled" that behavior.

Who is where you want to be right now with your health? You don't need to have a personal relationship with them, but you do need to have access to their strategies. Is it someone well known? Is it a friend or family member? Is it someone you follow on social media? Finding a model and studying their strategies will, many times, get you on the fast track to health.

Mentors – Sometimes these people can be the same as your models, but not always. Using the example above, my husband and I signed up for Dave Ramsey's class where he literally coached us step by step (through video) on exactly how we were going to get out of debt. I would say that the class facilitator was also our mentor, helping us to stay with the program.

What you may or may not already know is, the day you decided to become a New Life Promise member, you asked me to be one of your mentors. This, to me, is an extreme honor and a privilege, and I do not take this role lightly. That is why we give you every single tool you need to be successful on your weight loss and health journey. If you haven't already made the best use of the shopping lists, meal plans, and recipes inside the New Life Promise program, today is the day to start!

Partners – When I was working hard to get out of debt, my husband was my partner. He and I shared the same goal and vision for our life, so we were in it together. In the same way, who in your life also wants to get healthy? Who can you meal prep with, or go to the gym with?

When my mom first started her health journey, she and I would always meal prep together. It made the process so much easier, faster, and more fun to be chopping, cooking, and cleaning with someone else. And it was great quality time that I was able to spend with her.

Who could be your "partner in crime" on this health journey? Who would you enjoy making meals with or walking with? Someone in your family? Someone at work? Don't be afraid to ask. More people than you may realize are also wanting to take great care of their health and may just need the extra push and encouragement to start.

Friends – This is why the New Life Promise family Facebook group is an incredible place to be! If you don't have friends in your life who encourage you, I promise you will find those friends inside our wonderful community.

"Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble." – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Have you ever felt that way? Like you fell off your healthy eating plan and you were in real trouble? I know I have. I remember when I was first trying to lose weight, there were so many parties and events that completely derailed all my efforts. I so wish I had someone in my life during that time to pick me up when I fell off the wagon.

Luckily, you do! You have all of us inside the community who are there, ready and willing to reach out and pick you up whenever you need it.

"This is such an amazing community. The food and recipes are wonderful. BUT the community is second to none. May God be gracious to Isabel and all her staff this new year." – Becky

So, who is on your personal team?

Can you imagine how successful you would be with a team like this? It's almost like you couldn't fail!

My family and I just got back from a 6-day vacation in the Bahamas.

Wow! What an amazing trip!

Although the vacation was incredible, I am so happy to be home.

So happy to…

Sleep in my own bed
Cook my healthy food
Be back into a good routine
And most of all… love on my fur babies… lol.

Even though I have written countless times about how to stay healthy while traveling, it's a topic we see in the New Life Promise community so often that I felt like it was worth just touching upon some of the best tips for not completely derailing your health efforts.

So, in no particular order, here are a few tips for how you can still enjoy your vacation and travel, while maintaining your healthy habits.

Eat breakfast in the room if possible. We stayed in a small condo so we would have a kitchen for the week. When we arrived, we went straight to the grocery store, and even though healthy food was more expensive in the Bahamas than in South Carolina, we probably still saved hundreds of dollars by not eating breakfast at the resort. Even if you don’t have a full kitchen, most hotels now have a mini fridge and a coffee maker where you can boil water. A great travel breakfast may be some oats with a scoop of collagen powder. Or an apple or banana with almond butter and coffee with collagen in it. I mention collagen because it's a great, easy way to get in some extra protein. This is the collagen powder I use => Click Here for collagen

Be sure to sleep. I am really great about getting to bed on time at home and getting 7-8 hours of sleep every night, but that’s not as easy when we’re traveling. On Sunday night, we were up very late watching the Super Bowl and my body still woke up fairly early the next day. By 10am I found myself constantly snacking and I couldn’t figure out why until it dawned on me that I was exhausted and sleep deprived. I told my husband to go on ahead to the pool with the boys and I would catch up after a good nap. Sure, you don’t need to be super regimented or strict with your sleep times on vacation, but realize that sometimes we feel increased hunger and cravings because we’re sleep deprived and tired.

Be mindful of portions. You can still enjoy nice dinners and new foods when you’re traveling, especially if you’re mindful of your portions. We went out to dinner almost every single night, and I ate several things I wouldn’t typically eat at home, but I was mindful of the amounts. For example, we went out for burgers one night, and I got a burger with tomato on a gluten-free bun with a side of fries. As is typical at most restaurants, my mountain of fries looked like it was enough for 3 people, and although my kids ate every last one of theirs, my husband and I both ate some from my serving and then we threw out the rest. We also ate at a Japanese restaurant one night where we all tried a lot of new foods and I didn’t worry about what the ingredients were. I just ate what felt like a good portion for me, and I didn’t overeat. So no, you don’t have to miss out on nice restaurants and the whole experience… just be mindful of the amounts and portions.

Drink a lot of water. Drinking water becomes a bit more challenging when you’re traveling because you may not have access to water as easily as you do at home. I certainly had to be sure that I had purchased plenty of water in the morning so we all had enough for the day. I don’t normally have to think about this so much when I’m at home because I’m just in a natural routine of filling my large mason jar with water and drinking all day. But here I was out of my routine which required a bit more forethought.

I am certainly not suggesting you drive yourself crazy trying to follow every health principle you may do at home, but I am suggesting you maintain a mindset of health and do your very best.

As much as resolutions get a bad rap, I actually like them.

I love the start of a New Year and find that it's a great opportunity to reflect on the things that really worked over the previous year, as well as the things that didn’t.

A new calendar year feels like a fresh start and a great opportunity for new beginnings.

For some of us, we may be going back to a goal that we had set before but for whatever reason just didn't make it happen. Or maybe we did make it happen, but things started getting a little wonky as the year came to an end.

That was certainly the case for my own resolution…

Consistent Meal Planning

I know what you’re thinking.

Isabel, aren’t you a master meal planner? Isn’t that what you teach us to do?

Haha, yes. I actually am pretty good at meal planning but “life” happens here at the Price house just as it may happen at yours, and meal planning somehow fell to the bottom of my busy to-do list and eventually started to get ignored.

Now, there are some habits that have become such a way of life for us that no one here was ordering take-out or eating unhealthy food items. The biggest positive habit being that we always have leftovers of something in the fridge and the freezer that can be quickly reheated in a moment’s notice. But what I was finding was that every night was becoming a last-minute “so what are we making here?” which induces its own special kind of dinnertime stress.

I found the other factor is that my kids are older now (12 and 14) and very good in the kitchen, so on many nights they were happy to just make some pancakes or a panini and let my husband and I forage the fridge. That’s all fine and well and actually a great back-up plan, but I was finding this was happening way more frequently than I was happy with.

So here are the 2 very simple things I did to get our meal planning off to a great start in 2024. “Simple” being the important word here because I find that when I overcomplicate any area of my life, the habit or strategy never sticks.

First, I made a list of 15 of the most common and frequent meals we love to make. On this list were meals like taco night, burgers and fries, whole chicken in the air fryer, turkey burgers on the grill, chicken parmesan. As we started rattling off our favorite meals, we were at 15 in no time and we probably could have kept going.

Of course, this goes without saying, but every single one of these meals is my healthy version. Where a typical chicken parmesan is loaded with wheat and conventional dairy, mine is made with gluten-free breadcrumbs and organic parmesan cheese.

This really can be the case with almost every single meal.

I can look at any recipe or any meal and ask myself, “How can I make this into a healthy version?”

That’s exactly what you’ll find inside the LiveSmart meal plans. I’ve taken meals like pizza, mac and cheese, chicken cordon bleu, and even nachos and have created healthy versions.

In many cases, members have told us that their families enjoyed these healthier versions much better than the original version.

And yes, having your whole family enjoying a healthy meal together certainly makes sticking to your goals that much easier.

Onto the second thing we did to stick to our meal planning goal.

We committed to going through our LiveSmart volumes (there are now over 50 volumes!) and choosing one new meal to make every 2 weeks.

Of course, we have already tried pretty much every single one. But many of them, like the ones in earlier volumes, we haven’t made in years, for no other reason than we just forgot about them.

So once every 2 weeks, we are going to look through them together and choose which one we want to make again and then see if it will make it into our rotation of meals.

I chose every 2 weeks instead of every week because that is a more realistic timeframe for us and I wanted to set us up for success.

Creating the LiveSmart monthly program has not just given me a way to help our members succeed in achieving their weight loss goals long-term, it has also been a blessing to my own family, in that it has helped us to keep our healthy eating fun, interesting, and (most importantly) delicious.

Could it be exactly what you need to make healthy eating super easy for you this year?

It begins as early as Halloween. Every article, blog post, and advertisement is telling you how NOT to gain weight during the holidays. Telling you...

How NOT to eat all that Halloween candy,

How NOT to binge on your Thanksgiving meal, and

How NOT to eat every Christmas cookie in your office.

You see them all over the place, and they are an effort to help you NOT be completely derailed by this joyous season.

But to be 100% honest with you, I'm kind of sick of seeing these. I guess I just don't want to assume people are completely helpless during this time of year and would rather encourage you to know you have the ability to choose health, no matter what "season" we're in.

Here's the other thing.

Are the holidays really that different from any other time of the year?

I mean, I don't know about you, but between the number of birthday parties we're invited to, the summer travel, the church potluck dinners, and the bake sales that seem to be every few weeks, is there ever really a shortage of opportunities for us to be derailed from our health efforts?

The answer is simply NO. Every day, every week, and every month there will be a reason (or dare I say excuse) for us to NOT follow our healthy eating plans.

But you and I choose different. I know you do because you're reading this right now and, well, you and I are in this together.

So what can we do during the month of December instead of focusing on all the things NOT to do?

I propose that instead of focusing on how NOT to gain weight during the holidays, we all choose one health goal to commit to during the month of December to continue moving us forward on our health journeys.

I have outlined all the steps below using my own goal so all you need to do is answer each question for yourself and you'll have your own personal December Health Challenge.

***Remember, the example below is my goal, so you don't have to pick this one. Choose one that is realistic for you and applies to your life.

What is one small goal I can commit to this month to help me move forward with being healthier each and every day?

I can commit to sleeping 7+ hours every night in the month of December. No excuses!

Why do I want to achieve this goal?

I want to achieve this goal because I know, without a doubt, that when I sleep the required 7 hours each day, I feel incredibly more focused and energetic throughout the day. When I sleep less, it becomes very difficult for me to focus on my priorities throughout the day. I also notice that I am more susceptible to snapping at my kids and even my husband when I'm sleep deprived.

What will this goal look like daily in my life?

In order to get 7 hours of sleep, I have to be asleep by 9:30pm. In order to do that, we must be sitting down for dinner at 6:00pm and cleaning up by 7:00pm. I also need to begin my "getting ready for bed" routine by 8:00pm.

(Note: Working backwards from the time you want to do something is extremely helpful so you know exactly how you will accomplish your goal. You can do the same thing if you want to get to the gym at a certain time or get to work earlier.)

What am I willing to give up to achieve this goal?

I am willing to give up going on Facebook at night or texting my sister in the evening so I do not stay up late just because I am pounding away on my cell phone. I will let my sister know that I'm not ignoring her, I'm just trying to get to bed earlier.

How will I keep myself accountable to this goal?

I am going to keep a calendar next to my bed and I can put an X on the date only if I am in bed before 9:30pm. If, at the end of the month, I've missed 3 or less, I will treat myself to a massage. I am going to take a picture of my calendar and periodically show my progress on my Instagram stories. (If you don't already, follow me on Instagram!)

Now it's your turn! You can use the same question for any goal you may choose for December.

Whatever you choose as your goal, remember that you have the power to make December one of your best health months while everyone else is waiting for January to make any changes.

How awesome will it be to get to January 1st and say, "Wow! I feel pretty incredible right now. I can't wait to pick my next goal this month."

I can’t believe it. I blinked and all of a sudden it was November… lol.

I absolutely love this time of year. Yes, I love the decorations and the fun family gatherings, but what I really love the most is the delicious healthy recipes I get to make for each holiday.

I love good recipes all year long, but I find that during the holidays I have the added opportunity to show those around me that healthy food can be incredibly delicious… sometimes even more delicious than the not-so-healthy equivalents.

It’s really a complete mindset shift for some, and I know it was for me (and my mom) several years back when I first became a nutritionist and was helping my mom get a handle on her out-of-control diabetes.

I find that most often the mindset around the holiday is very much…

Eat whatever you want, however much you want, because, hey, it’s the holidays and that’s what everyone does.

January is just around the corner, and I will just deal with my health challenges and weight gain then.

Oh, just live a little. No one “diets” around the holidays.

But this year, I want to invite you to take a completely different mental approach to the holidays. I invite you to embrace it as a true celebration… a celebration of your body, with overwhelming gratitude for the incredible temple the Lord has blessed you with.

Here’s what a celebration of your body during the holidays can look like…

Thanksgiving will be a great combination of old family favorites and new delicious meals I have learned from my NLP plan.

I will enjoy Thanksgiving not by gorging myself with food, but by enjoying a little bit of everything, knowing that my health plan will not be derailed a bit.

I will not treat myself with food but will treat myself with experiences that may include an extra outing with family, a special healthy baking day with my kids or grandkids, or a homemade fall picnic out in nature.

Christmas will be about my Savior, not all about food and gifts and overspending on items I probably don’t need.

Every Christmas recipe has a healthy alternative and I will enjoy being creative in the kitchen.

I could go on and on.

How amazing will it feel when you get to the end of December feeling really good about your choices and excited for the new year ahead?

How great will it feel to approach the end of the holiday season with a smile, knowing you made great choices and possibly helped those around you make great choices as well?

And how awesome will it feel to end the year feeling healthy and vibrant and have possibly lost a few pounds instead of gaining the usual holiday 10 or 15?

I love our New Life Promise community! It's full of amazing people sharing their lives and journeys to health. And when I see a post like...

"I finished week 4 yesterday and down 15 lbs!!"

...I'm thrilled!

But sometimes, these moments of celebration aren't so exciting for everyone.

After a few posts of people celebrating their weight loss success, I sometimes see comments like, "I only lost 2 lbs this week," or "I ate so well, but only lost 1 lb. Am I doing something wrong?"

The short answer: No!

What you may or may not know is that average healthy weight loss is one pound a week. Just one! It may seem slow, but it's a healthy way for your body to adjust slowly, and it increases your chances of keeping the weight off long term.

Now, sometimes if you try a cleanse or a detox, you'll lose more than a pound a week. Or if you have a lot of weight to lose, your results might be different. That's great! But if you're seeing a steady loss of one pound every week, you're doing everything right, and you're amazing for doing it!

Really, if you're eating healthy, you're doing the right thing no matter what the scale says. But when you see such big losses from other people, it's easy to think you don't measure up.

So when you feel down about your progress and wonder why you aren't seeing the same losses you're hearing about in the community, here are a few tips to help you stay positive.

#1 - Don't Compare and Despair

It's hard to stop comparing yourself to others. Though it might seem like someone had a huge victory, while you saw much smaller results, you don't really know the whole story.

Let's say you're comparing yourself to someone who lost ten pounds in a week. Well, what we don't know about them is their starting weight, what their diet was like before they started this new plan, how much they're sleeping each night... or really, anything else about their life.

Here's a different way to think about it. Imagine you and another woman are waiting tables. Your coworker gets a 50% tip, while you only got 20%. Sounds like your friend had a huge win, right? Until you look at the whole picture... turns out, she got a $5 tip on a $10 bill, while you got a $20 tip on a $100 bill.

Obviously, my tipping scenario and weight loss aren't exactly the same, but when you compare yourself to someone else... especially when it's only based on what they post on social media... you never really see the full picture.

So say congrats to your friend and be happy for them! And remember that their ups and downs really have no impact on your own personal journey.

#2 - Think Beyond the Scale

It's always tough to step on the scale and not see the results you wanted. But there's so much going on that the scale doesn't measure.

The scale doesn't measure how much your blood sugar levels have improved. The scale doesn't measure how your estrogen and progesterone levels are balancing out. And the scale doesn't measure cellular changes that happen as your body heals from years of processed and toxic ingredients.

When you eat well, all these amazing changes are happening inside your body all the time. But the scale doesn't give you any credit! That's why it's so important to let the scale be only one tool you use to track your progress.

Instead of just measuring your weight, think about how your clothes fit, how you feel in the morning, and how much energy you have. When you think about ALL the ways you're feeling better, a sluggish scale isn't so bad.

And trust me... the scale will catch up eventually.

#3 - Celebrate the Little Victories

Usually people think "I'll celebrate when I reach my goal."

By all means, celebrate when you achieve what you've set out to do (I've got "Celebrate Good Times" ready to go on my Spotify playlist just for you!). But in the meantime, you should celebrate all the little victories along the way to your ultimate goal.

Were you able to buy a shirt in Large instead of XL (even if the scale didn't really change)? Celebrate! You chose a piece of fruit over the ice cream your husband brought home? Celebrate! You played tag with your kids without getting winded? That's a huge reason to celebrate (especially if your kids are anything like mine - they could outrun a marathoner)!

When you celebrate the little things, it makes the journey more fun. And when the journey is more fun, you're more likely to stay on the path and make it to your final goal (and an even bigger celebration).

Instead of thinking about all the pounds you haven't lose yet, or all the ways someone else is doing better than you, focus on the positives. You'll be happier and you'll still see amazing results.

Remember, you're choosing to live a better, healthier life. Most people don't do that. So, really... you've already won.
